"A lobster is a mushy animal that lives inside of a rigid shell. As it grows, the shell becomes confining and the lobster feels a lot of pressure. It goes under a rock, cast off its shell and grows a new one. Eventually, that shell becomes too small and the lobster starts over. The stimulus for the lobster to grow is that it feels uncomfortable."

Love A Good Makeover?

With a lot of elbow grease, an amazing community of wonderful supporters, and a small bank loan (thank God!), we were able to transform a beat up space into something really beautiful.

Here's what it looked like two weeks ago...

We got mirrors donated from our new friend, Justin Calloway. He was planning on building a DIY home dance studio for his daughter but never got to it...and so was happy the mirrors found a good home. He is one of the kindest people we've ever met. If you're reading this, Justin, thank you!

Our friend, Colin Stewart, introduced us to our builder, Justin Strange (apparently we attract awesome guys named Justin), and thanks to a generous discount from Dick's Color Supply, we got paint!

After a huge hiccup with flooring on Craigslist (costing us more money than we could afford), we discovered Lumber Liquidators and got ourselves a proper floor.

Which pretty much brings us to now:

The last thing we need before opening our doors is an air conditioner. A commercial unit will cost us $3,500 to purchase and install. With all the dancing going down, it gets really hot in the space. Help us raise the funds to keep things cool on GoFundMe!

The studio is at 1847 E. Burnside in Portland, OR. Stay updated on class schedule and opening party announcements through our newsletter.

Thank you for believing in this project. We couldn't do it without you.
